Year 5
Spring term
What a fantastic spring term it has been in Year 5! The children have thrown themselves into a wide range of exciting activities and have demonstrated incredible enthusiasm, resilience, and creativity in their learning. It has been wonderful to see them build on their skills and knowledge across all areas of the curriculum, and we are so proud of the progress they have made.
In our core subjects, the children have shown great dedication and imagination. In reading and writing, we have been exploring the novel Holes by Louis Sachar, which inspired some brilliant outcomes, including thoughtful poetry and detailed character descriptions. In maths, the focus has been on developing a deep understanding of fractions, investigating angles, and mastering translation of shapes. The children have worked hard to solve increasingly complex problems and have demonstrated real perseverance.
Our wider curriculum has been equally exciting. In Geography, we have been learning all about the world’s oceans, their importance, and the challenges they face. Science lessons have focused on forces, with lots of hands-on investigations that encouraged the children to predict, test, and evaluate. In Art, the children have been developing their skills in printmaking and drawing, producing some fantastic pieces. Alongside this, the children have been busy in Computing, enhancing their digital skills, while in French they have been building confidence in their conversational language. In P.E, the children demonstrated great teamwork and sportsmanship during our basketball sessions. Our PSHE lessons have been centred around valuing ourselves and recognising our unique strengths.
The term was enriched with some wonderful visits and special events. World Book Day was a particular highlight, with the children and staff dressing up to celebrate a love of reading. We were lucky enough to visit the beautiful Rochester Cathedral, where the children saw the Mars exhibition as well as learning about the history and architecture in an inspiring setting. A real treat was welcoming parents into school for our Poetry Gala, where the children proudly shared their work and performed their poems to a very appreciative audience.
We are so proud of everything Year 5 has achieved this term and can’t wait to see what the summer term brings!
